Pobl Group, in collaboration with Castell Group and Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, is excited to announce a new housing development on the site of the former Neath Working Men’s Club.

The project, supported by Social Housing Grant funding from the Welsh Government, aims to address the high demand for quality, affordable housing in the area and contribute to the ongoing regeneration of the town centre.

The project involves the demolition of the former Neath Working Men’s Club and the construction of 36 new homes, consisting of 32 one-bedroom apartments and 4 two-bedroom apartments. All units will be designated for Social Rent.

The development is located on Wind Street at the heart of Neath Town Centre, an area with high housing demand, adjacent to the Council’s new multi-million-pound leisure centre and library, and close to local shops and businesses.

With roots dating back to at least the 1960s, the much-loved ‘Workies’ was a cornerstone of community life in the town for decades. Pobl are keen that new development will not only provide much-needed housing for the area, but also contribute to the revitalisation of Neath town centre as a place to live and work.

Rosy Steel, Project Manager for Pobl Group said In proud collaboration with Castell Group, the Welsh Government, and Neath Council, our new social rented apartments in Neath town centre embody our shared vision for vibrant and sustainable communities through accessible, quality housing. This project represents our commitment to delivering practical solutions, and revitalizing the former Neath Working Men’s Club is not just about building houses, our focus is the ongoing regeneration of Neath town centre.”

Dorian Payne, Castell Group Managing Director commented “We are looking forward to working with Pobl on this new social housing project in Neath. The former workingman’s club will be transformed by our team into high-quality, affordable, and low-carbon housing for the area. Through our partnerships with clients like Pobl, we can deliver much-needed social housing in South Wales.”

The site’s accessibility by foot, cycle, bus, and train makes it an ideal location for residential development. The project aligns with Pobl’s carbon-cutting aspirations, with all homes designed to achieve an EPC A rating, incorporating sustainable building practices and advanced technologies to meet Welsh Government standards.

Contracts for the development were signed on 6th October, and the project is set to be completed within 112 weeks.

Pobl Group is committed to creating vibrant, sustainable communities, and this housing development represents a significant step towards meeting the housing needs of the local community while adhering to the highest standards of environmental responsibility.
