Police Engagement Space Opens at Swansea’s Quadrant for Festive Period
A brand-new pop-up engagement space has opened at Swansea’s Quadrant Shopping Centre, offering visitors and businesses a convenient location to engage with police and safety representatives during the bustling Christmas period.
Funded by Swansea BID, Centurion (Owners of the Quadrant), and South Wales Police, the pop-up is part of a collaborative initiative to enhance safety and community engagement during one of the busiest times of the year. It will serve as a central point where shoppers, workers, and city-centre visitors can drop in to discuss security concerns, seek advice, or learn about the measures being taken to ensure a safe and enjoyable festive season in Swansea.
Andrew Douglas, Swansea BID Manager, said:
“We are proud to co-fund this space in the heart of the City. This is an excellent example of collaboration aimed at enhancing safety and wellbeing in Swansea. We understand how important it is for our visitors, workers, and businesses to feel supported and secure, particularly during the busy Christmas period. This hub reflects our commitment to creating a welcoming and safe city for everyone, at Swansea BID.”
Andrew Hedley, Neighbourhood Policing Inspector at South Wales Police, said:
“By opening our pop-up shop, we hope to raise awareness of crimes we see over Christmas, including domestic abuse, drink/drug driving, nighttime economy-related violence, scams and acquisitive crime. Within the shop are items relating to some of these crimes, with real life stories showing the outcomes.
“We really want to get people to think twice about committing these crimes and to illustrate the consequences by showing how much crime could cost you. We also know that some people will be at risk of becoming a victim of crime including thefts, abuse or another form of crime, so it’s important we are here to provide safety advice.
“The pop-up will be staffed officers and support staff during opening times 10am-4pm every day, who will be happy to speak to anyone with concerns. There will also be visits from departments from South Wales Police including the Roads Policing Unit, Police Wellbeing Dogs, Cyber Crime team and Rape Investigation Team as well as a range of partner agencies including Fire Service, Safer Swansea and Local Authority.”
Adam Gibbons, Estates Manager at Centurion, commented:
“As a long-standing partner in Swansea’s community initiatives, we are delighted to be part of this project. The location within the Quadrant means that it is easily accessible for visitors to the City Centre. The Hub not only enhances safety but also fosters a stronger connection between businesses, visitors, and the organisations working tirelessly to protect our city during the festive period.”*
The pop-up will operate throughout the festive season, offering a proactive presence that supports Swansea’s thriving city-centre environment. Whether you’re a business owner seeking tailored advice or a visitor looking for information, the hub welcomes everyone to contribute to the city’s collaborative effort for a safer holiday period.
The pop-up will be open from 10am – 4pm Monday – Sunday and is located at the WHSmith, Union Street entrance to The Quadrant. The engagement space will close on Christmas Eve.
