A Pontypool Casino is going under the hammer next month. The Cashino building, which can be found on George Street, is being listed on September 3rd. If you are an interested bidder then you need to sign up online. The property has three storeys, with a basement. The first and second floors are being let to a national charity. The ground floor and the basement, however, are vacant. Auctioneers have stated that the property is in a good area and that the stairs to the upper floor are blocked off. Storage rooms connect to the building, and there are also some toilets.

A New Era for Casinos Across the World

Of course, the casino in Wales closing down is nothing new. Casinos across the world are now closing their doors, whether it is to make room for new developments, or because they are simply no longer competitive. A lot of this comes down to the rise of online casinos. If you want to gamble, you can find a live European roulette table online, without having to travel to find one open in your local area. Game variety is also much greater online, as you have options that range from Premium French Roulette to Penny Roulette. Traditional casinos, especially ones in smaller areas, cannot stay competitive and need to find ways to pivot so that they can meet changing demands. Even though the casino in Wales is closing down, others are seizing the opportunity to evolve.

Hard Rock International has recently announced that they will be closing the Mirage Hotel and Casino. With that being said, this is being done to make way for a new casino, which is set to open in 2027. The new casino is set to have a range of new games, with more spacious hotel rooms and a brand-new look.

Online Payments Are Fuelling the Casino Movement

Another reason why casinos, like the Pontypool establishment, are closing down is because of the rise of online payments. More and more people are choosing to game online as it gives them the chance to deposit money by using their bank card. A lot of traditional casino establishments and slot machines only accept cash, which makes it hard for people to keep on playing if they don’t have access to a cash machine. Online casinos also offer a lot of bonuses, including free spins. Traditional casinos aren’t able to offer this, which is why some casinos are reinventing themselves. The Mirage is just one example. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens from here, and whether a developer sees the Pontypool Casino as a chance to refresh the casino scene in Wales.

If a new casino opened up at the location, with a focus on more digital games, or with a luxurious/niche setting, then this could help to attract people from all over the local area. It would help to fuel the economy, and it may even bring in tourism. If the Pontypool casino underwent an overhaul, similar to The Mirage, exciting times could be ahead.
