The Village Shop in Wick, Vale of Glamorgan, has officially reopened today, marking a new chapter in its history under the stewardship of its new owners, Kristian Rollason and Jon Bissmire. Following an extensive refurbishment, the shop and post office now offers a refreshed and modernized shopping experience while retaining its essential role at the heart of the local community.

The reopening has been met with excitement and enthusiasm from residents, who gathered to celebrate the revival of this cherished local establishment. The new owners, Kristian and Jon, have expressed their commitment to preserving the shop’s traditional charm while introducing new features and product ranges to cater to contemporary tastes.

“We’re thrilled to reopen the Village Shop and to welcome everyone back,” said Kristian Rollason. “Our aim was to create a space that not only serves the needs of the community but to also cement it’s historic place as a hub where people can support local producers, connect with other villagers and feel at home. The support we’ve received so far has been incredible – and we want to give special thanks to former owners Mary and Tracy who have given us this wonderful opportunity to own a unique business in a village I have lived in all my life.”

Every inch is utilised and well-stocked shelves offer a wide range of produce

“We love living in Wick, and we wanted to ensure the Village Shop remains more than just a place to pick up groceries,” added Jon Bissmire. “It’s about creating a welcoming atmosphere where people can enjoy great local products, chat to one another and feel a sense of pride in their community.  The shop is a cherished local asset and we want to continue to serve villagers and build on the legacy we have inherited.”

The refurbishment has seen significant upgrades to both the shop’s interior and exterior. A new exterior sign and modern shelving and fixtures inside enhance the shopping experience, while a carefully curated selection of produce reflects the new owners’ dedication to offering high-quality, locally sourced goods. Customers can look forward to an expanded range of fresh produce, artisan bread, dairy products, and other essentials, as well as a variety of treats and gift items.

It’s a testament to the spirit of this wonderful local village that when the NTSI news team walked in on day one, we already found a bustling hub filled with friendly shoppers expressing their delight at the shop’s new look, and many of the locals brought cards, gifts and flowers to welcome Kristian and Jon.  It was also great to see much-loved former owner Mary on hand to help as the new owners settle in.

However, while there is definitely a buzz and a warm Wick welcome already, there is more to come.  The duo also have ambitious plans to open a future coffee shop, utilising unused space to serve coffee and snacks, and to host regular events, including tastings of local food and drink, workshops, and seasonal celebrations, further strengthening the shop’s role as a community hub.

The shop stocks popular brands and local meats

The reopening marks a positive development for Wick and the surrounding area, with residents expressing gratitude for the efforts of Kristian and Jon in refurbishing their beloved shop. The Village Shop’s commitment to supporting local suppliers and fostering community spirit ensures it will remain a vital part of Wick for years to come.
