Members of the public who visited one of three pubs in Porthcawl on the evening of Friday 11 September are being advised to be extra-vigilant for symptoms of coronavirus, and to self-isolate and book a test immediately if symptoms occur.

The Cwm Taf Morgannwg Test Trace and Protect Service has said a number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 were at The Royal Oak in South Road, Porthcawl, between 6.30pm-9pm on 11 September.

They then moved on to the Marine on the Esplanade, Porthcawl, between 9pm-10pm, and the Pier on the Esplanade from 10pm.

Gemma Northey, Chair of the multi-agency Incident Management Team for Public Health Wales, said: “If you have visited any of these premises and have been identified as a contact due to completing the track and trace records, then the Test, Trace and Protect team should have your details and will contact you to provide further advice.

“If you visited any of these premises and you or a member of your household develop symptoms of cough, fever or a change in sense of taste or smell, you must self-isolate, along with any household members, and book a coronavirus test promptly to help control the spread of infection.

“However, if you have visited the above premises and are not symptomatic then you do not need to book a test or self-isolate, not unless you display symptoms or are instructed to do so.”

The Leader, Cllr Huw David said: “With rising cases of coronavirus appearing in our communities, we ask people to act responsibly and be alert to the symptoms of Covid-19 in order to get tested as quickly as possible.

“There is now a walk-in mobile testing unit set up at the Bowls Hall car park of Bridgend Life Centre which is open seven days a week between 9am-5pm.

“With the new local restrictions in place for Bridgend County Borough, we are appealing to anyone who was planning to celebrate the Elvis Festival in Porthcawl to please stay away this weekend as the event has been cancelled.

“We are working closely with our partners such as South Wales Police and the Shared Regulatory Service, and have introduced a range of measures designed to deter people from travelling into the town to gather in large numbers.”
