Press Release – Aloud Charity Appoints New Chair
THE Aloud charity has announced the appointment of Dr Ian Rees as Chair to succeed Menna Richards.
Dr Rees has extensive experience of education and training. As Executive Director of Grwp Llandrillo Menai he was responsible for providing businesses throughout north Wales and internationally with training and staff development services. Previously, he was Principal of several of Wales’ FE Colleges including Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor and Coleg Menai.
He was also vice-chair of Arts Council Wales and Chair of the Welsh Language Commissioner’s Audit and Risk committee.
Ian has a deep interest in and love for the arts, choral singing in particular. From the Swansea Valley originally, he now lives in Cricieth.
Ian Rees said: “I’m honoured and excited to be taking the role of chair at the ALOUD Charity to build on the fantastic work done by Menna Richards before me. I am joining a great team of people. Choral music means a great deal to me and I am committed to work to continue providing musical, and life, experiences to the young singers that benefit from the work of ALOUD”.
Outgoing chair Menna Richards said: “I’m delighted to hand over the reins to Ian. His depth of experience in education and the arts together with his enthusiasm and love for singing mean that, as ALOUD’s Chair, he has a profound appreciation of the charity’s values and ambition”
CEO Rachel Dominy said: “Menna has been part of the fabric of Aloud since day one, most recently serving as an outstanding Chair for the charity. She has brought so much to the organisation: we will miss her and want to thank her for her commitment and support over the years. We are absolutely thrilled that Ian will be taking over: his experience, energy, enthusiasm and not to mention his fine tenor voice will ensure Aloud can continue to flourish over the coming years.”
