The Ageing Well in Denbighshire network is a long-standing group with over 90 members, including individuals and representatives from a wide range of voluntary and statutory organisations. The group shares a common goal of making Denbighshire a good place to grow older.

Denbighshire is one of many counties in Wales working towards being an age friendly community, as approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

An Ageing Well event held today (17 July) in Prestatyn highlighted the importance of this message, and saw pupils from a local school share their experiences along with older Denbighshire residents.

During the event, students shared their experiences of the work they have been doing along with tenants from Nant y Môr Extra Housing scheme.

Community based organization, Under the Broom Tree, shared a presentation on becoming Dementia Friendly, and how this initiative fits within an age friendly community.

The Ageing Well in Denbighshire network group is in the process of completing an application to the World Health Organization, for this work to be officially recognised.

Councillor Elen Heaton, Lead Member for Health and Social Care said:

“‘We all want to live in a community that is a great place to grow older, which makes the work of Ageing Well in Denbighshire important to each of us in the county.

These events are so valuable, helping us gather important information to create a more inclusive community. Feedback from these events also support our application to the World Health Organisation for age friendly recognition. This engagement and collaboration helps Denbighshire become a more age friendly place to live.”

A further event is being planned for September 30th, which will be held in the South of the county.
