During a recent Estyn inspection, it was noted that the wellbeing of pupils is of paramount importance to staff at Garth Primary School, generating an environment in which learners feel nurtured and safe.

According to the Estyn report, this caring culture positively impacts the pupils’ wellbeing as well as their attitude towards school.  Inspectors highlighted a strong working relationship, built on mutual respect, between staff and pupils – allowing learners to feel safe to make mistakes, as well as ask for help.

This supportive ethos is also reflected in the relationships between staff.  A strong sense of teamwork is evident at the school, with the headteacher, senior leaders and staff working together positively.  The school’s family engagement officers were also recognised for their contribution to the life and work of the school, with them organising a wide range of initiatives to support pupils and their families.

Headteacher, Amy Hatch-Walker, has been acknowledged for her passion and dedication in leading the school, as well as for developing a clear vision that focuses on achieving high standards and driving change.  She said of the inspection report: “I am extremely proud of the success of Garth Primary School and was delighted that the team valued our happy and caring ethos, identifying that we put our pupils’ wellbeing at the heart of all we do.

“We were also very pleased that our work with families was highlighted as having a positive effect on our community, as this is something which makes us very proud. Garth Primary is a busy and thriving school, where our children are encouraged to achieve success, have high aspirations and ‘reach for the stars’. Moving forward, we will continue to deliver the very best learning and experiences for all of our children.”

Councillor Jon Paul Blundell, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “Well done Garth Primary School!  What a sterling Estyn inspection report!  How wonderful to be recognised for prioritising the wellbeing of the pupils, because everything else is built on that foundation.  I am looking forward to seeing how the school will continue to grow from strength to strength.  Congratulations all!”
