Rhug Estate Honoured with Prestigious Award for Championing Rural Life

Rhug Estate, a spectacular 12,500-acre organic farm nestled near Corwen in Denbighshire, has been recognised with a major new accolade celebrating its outstanding impact on rural life.
Lord Newborough, owner of the estate, was presented with The Harry Fetherstonhaugh OBE Award (For Large Business) at the first-ever Clwyd and Cheshire Royal Welsh Agricultural Society (RWAS) Presidents Awards.
The glittering awards ceremony and celebratory dinner took place at the White House Hotel and Spa in Rhuallt, where leaders in agriculture and rural enterprise gathered to applaud those shaping the future of the countryside.
The 2025 theme shone a spotlight on individuals and businesses making a lasting difference to rural life in Clwyd, with RWAS Members encouraged to nominate standout contributors across three categories.
Lord Newborough expressed his pride in receiving the honour, saying:
“Our place at the heart of the Vale of Clwyd is very special to us, as is the impact we have had for generations on sustainable agriculture and now organic farming. We are thrilled and grateful to receive this inaugural award – thank you.”
The awards also recognised two other inspiring winners:
-
Eryl Williams, recipient of The Trebor Edwards Award, for his exceptional individual contribution to rural life in Clwyd.
-
J&G Tyres Ltd of Denbigh, who took home The R. Gwynn Hughes Award (For Small Business).
The RWAS Clwyd and Cheshire Advisory Committee are already looking ahead to next year, with hopes the awards will become a cherished annual celebration within the rural community.
Details on how to nominate for the 2026 awards will be shared this autumn on the CAFC RWAS Clwyd and Cheshire Facebook page.
