Christ the Word school in Rhyl has increased its dining capacity, ready for the new term to start in September.

The hard work to add increased dining capacity began in March 2023, to look at the options for the area.

60 additional chairs, 10 extra tables and a breakfast bar have now been added to the ‘Avenue’ section of the school.

The new upgrade to the school is part of the Universal Primary Free School Meals roll out, which will see all primary school pupils offered free school meals by 2024.

Denbighshire County Council started to offer the Universal Primary Free School Meals offer to all Year 2 pupils in Denbighshire from the end of April. The offer is due to be extended to Years 3 and 4 from September 2023.

Geraint Davies, Head of Service for Education at Denbighshire County Council said:

“These new renovations and upgrades to the dining capacity allows both the school and the authority to successfully deliver the Universal Primary Free School Meals roll out.

This upgrade will ensure that the capacity is there to offer the Universal Free School Meals offer, whilst the roll out is taking place. I would like to thank all of the staff who have made this possible”.
