Roman inspired art displayed to celebrate Baths renovation completion

To celebrate the completion of the second and final phase of the renovation work at the Roman Baths site in Prestatyn, Roman inspired artwork created by local school pupils is being displayed at an exhibition at Prestatyn Library.

Pupils from Ysgol Melyd, Bodnant Primary School, Ysgol Y Llys and Ysgol Penmorfa participated in creating the artwork, which will be exhibiting at the library until the beginning of May.

Local Councillors came along to visit the exhibit at the library and discuss the renovation work with the North Countryside Ranger and the Lead Contractor for the work.

An open day event will be held tomorrow (12 of April) at the Roman Bath House which will include a selection of activities, including clay work, a Roman re-enactment soldier and some Roman artefacts from the museum collection will be available to view on the day.

Sasha Taylor, Countryside Ranger said:

“We have now completed the second and final phase of the renovation work at the Prestatyn Roman Baths site. This work included re-grouting the paving as well as restoring the Roman Bath House remains.

The restorations were done with the original stone using lime mortar. This work will help to prevent erosion from water and frost, preserving the remains for many years to come. We have enlisted the help of local school pupils to create some brilliant Roman inspired artwork, which is currently on display at Prestatyn Library, along with some Roman artifacts, which are connected to the site.”

Councillor Alan James, Lead Member for Local Development and Planning said:

“It is great to see that the renovation work is now complete at this historic site. This work will help future-proof this truly special site for generations to come.

The artwork created by our local school pupils is really good and it is really nice to see them sitting so proudly at the local library. I would urge any history lovers to come along to the open day down at the Roman Baths tomorrow to learn more about this fascinating site.”
