A Cardiff Bus driver has been crowned the best in the city at its ‘Bus Driver of the Year’ competition.

Ross German came out on top beating other drivers to take the title.

Having worked at Cardiff Bus for the last four years, Ross came first after completing a series of tests relating to his driving skills.

Beating off competition from 9 other bus drivers, to win Ross completed a short drive and a specially adapted theory test, which included road safety and hazard awareness questions.

Bus drivers Carl Jefford and Kevin Hancock came second and third respectively.

Winning £250 cash, Ross will now go on to compete in the National Bus Driver of the Year finals, which will be held in Blackpool this September.

On his win, Ross said:

“I was chuffed to bits to win this title and am proud to go on and represent Cardiff Bus in the national finals later this year.”

Cardiff Bus managing director, Cynthia Ogbonna, said:

“Congratulations to Ross on his win as our best bus driver.

“Winning ‘Bus Driver of the Year’ is testament to his skills as a driver and his overall commitment to the job.

“We’re very proud of all our drivers who took part in the competition. It’s great that their efforts can be recognised and rewarded.

Cardiff Bus employs 702 staff, of which 560 are bus drivers.

Carrying 100,000 passengers every day on 3,000 journeys covering 27,000 miles, the bus operator is looking for more drivers to join its team

Mrs Ogbonna continued:

“Working for Cardiff Bus is a lot more than just driving a bus. It is an opportunity to work in an exciting and varied environment, meeting new people and providing a vital service to the people of Cardiff.

“We’re looking for motivated, driven and friendly individuals who have excellent customer service skills, ensuring our customers feel welcome on every journey.”
