Roulette: Everything you need to know

Roulette was first created in the 19th century in France, and from there the game continued to grow across the country, before spinning around the globe. With it being a game of chance, there is no strategy to beat the notorious wheel – making the game even more interesting.

Now, Roulette is more accessible than ever, and you can even play live casino games at griffoncasino.com, where you’ll find a range of unique games, including the renowned Roulette!

Read on to find out more.

The basics

Despite the Roulette table and wheel sometimes looking intimidating to new players; the aim of the game is quite simple – to bet on the number (or numbers) you predict the ball to land on.

When playing at a land-based casino, or at the aforementioned live casino online, the dealer will spin the Roulette wheel in one direction, and then throw the ball into the wheel the opposite way. Once the ball slows down it will land in one of the numbered partitions, this is the winning number.

The Roulette table

The numbers on a Roulette table run from zero to 36, with numbers one through 36 alternating in red and black, with zero being the only green. Some tables have a double zero (00) or even triple zero (000) pocket. Extra zeros change the odds of your bet – the more zeros a table has, the lower your odds are. This is why many players opt for European Roulette, as the single zero makes the house edge significantly lower than that of American Roulette.

Whether you’re playing live, online, or at a land-based venue, bets are made by placing chips at various points on the table which correspond to different bets, on different numbers, with different odds.

Placing a bet

When betting, you place chips or money on the area of the table that represents the bet you would like to make. If you are playing online, you choose the amount you would like to bet and then select which numbers you would like to place a bet on.

Make sure you only bet with money you can afford to lose. As there is no winning strategy to playing Roulette, keeping it a game of pure chance, you could equally win or make a loss.

Types of bets

You can place bets in a number of ways. The two main types of bets in Roulette are classified as inside and outside bets.

Inside bets are placed inside the grid of numbers, in the centre of the table, and outside bets are placed around the edges of the table.

Once you have your chips, you are free to place them anywhere on the board. Be aware that outside bets usually have a higher minimum.

Normally an outside bet will be between five and 10 times the inside bet minimum – meaning that you’d be required to wager at least five coins on a Red/Black bet if you were playing at a table with a minimum inside bet of one coin, for example
