A portrait of King Charles as Prince of Wales by artist David Griffiths MBE (002)s

An artist who has painted royalty and politicians is offering his skills as part of a charity auction prize for City Hospice.

David Griffiths MBE, a renowned portrait artist, will paint a detailed portrait of lot 80’s winner or somebody of the winner’s choice.

Among David’s most well-known works are two portraits of King Charles III during his time as Prince of Wales: receiving the freedom of the city of Cardiff following his investiture and a 2002 portrait commissioned by the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society. On both occasions, the king sat for David’s paintings.

Auctioneer Ben Rogers Jones, an ambassador for City Hospice, said: “This is such an exciting lot for supporters to bid on. An opportunity to be painted by such an incredible portrait artist who has captured royalty, politicians and other notable figures is one not to be missed!

“The value of the portrait that David is kindly offering through the auction would usually be around £7000 to £10,000, due to the time, skill and care dedicated to such a piece of art.”

David Griffiths MBE said: “I am delighted to support City Hospice because they do a very important job caring for patients with life-limiting illnesses in my community. I hope that the portrait I will be painting sells well as I know the money is going to such a good cause.”

The auction, which includes David’s prize lot and a wide range of art featuring top artists such as Sally Moore, Harry Holland and Karl Davies, takes place on December 7 and will raise funds for City Hospice, the only provider of home-based specialist palliative care in Cardiff.

The charity provides care and compassion to patients living with life limiting and terminal illness, in addition to bereavement support and counselling services for families.

All funds raised at the auction will be match funded by The Hodge Foundation. Rogers Jones Auctioneers will take no commission on any of the lots and will also donate the 15% buyer’s premium to City Hospice.
