Cardiff Blues Flanker and City Hospice ambassador, Ellis Jenkins, has teamed up with City Hospice in Whitchurch to captain a team at a ‘Wales V Rest of the World Question of Sport’ fundraiser.

The sports star launched the event with a surprise visit to the hospice last week with Alex James from headline sponsors iStadia Solutions, who are working in conjunction with Engagesport.

The event at the Principality Stadium on Thursday 3rd October will celebrate this year’s Rugby World Cup being held in Japan and comes on the back of a similarly successful event last year.

Wales will have just played Australia in the second pool game, so discussion is sure to turn to recent play with a Japanese-themed menu also marking the occasion.

Kiwi Blues player Nick Williams, will captain opposite Ellis and Blues fans at City Hospice last week were keen to hear all about the calendar highlight when Ellis dropped in.

Liz Andrews, City Hospice Chief Executive Officer, said:

“It was absolutely fantastic to have Ellis and Alex with us at the hospice. The patients loved meeting them and having their photographs taken! We really value their support and thank Ellis for captaining the Wales team at the event and Alex, for agreeing to be the Headline Sponsor. Without valuable support like this, we wouldn’t be able to continue the vital work we do out in the Cardiff community, caring for patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families.”

City Hospice provides specialist medical, nursing and end of life care to patients in their own homes. The team there offers counselling to adults and children, welfare benefits advice and day centres with a range of activities.

The registered charity is also the only at-home palliative care provider for the city of Cardiff and requires a total of £2m every year to keep providing these specialist services.

Alex James said:

“We’re excited to be working in partnership with City Hospice and sponsoring this fantastic sporting event. It was great going along to the hospice and not only hearing about the work they do, but also seeing it in action in their Day Centre.”

Caerphilly-based iStadia Solutions provide top of the range digital communications technology to companies, including outdoor LED screens, pitch-side led perimeter boards and digital signage solutions. They will provide kit for the event.

Tickets are currently on sale, with tables of 8 costing £600 (+VAT) and individual tickets available at £75 (+VAT).
