The Cardiff Metropolitan University Cardiff 10K & 2K Family Fun Run: Sunday 1st September 2019

Leading Welsh health charity Kidney Wales is calling on all runners across Wales to sign up for the annual Cardiff Metropolitan University Cardiff 10K and 2K road race, which is being held in Cardiff city centre on Sunday 1st September.

This year’s race will start and finish at the Civic Centre on Sunday 1st September, with the main 10K event commencing at 10am, after the 2K Family Run which starts at 9.15am.

The Cardiff Met Cardiff 10K is one of the top ten road races in the UK and attracted a record number of runners to the streets of the Welsh capital in 2018, with over 8,000 entrants taking part.

Race organisers, Kidney Wales, have opened the event to more runners than ever before and are aiming to attract more than 9,000 entrants across both races. They’re also encouraging the Cardiff public to get involved and hope to draw in more than 30,000 spectators to cheer on the runners during the day.

Cardiff Metropolitan University has been announced as the headline sponsor of the race for 2019.  Students and staff will be supporting runners at the finish line on race day with specialist advice from the University’s podiatry and sports massage programmes.

Ben Hughes Deputy Director of Marketing & External Relations at Cardiff Metropolitan University commented:

“We are delighted to be the headline sponsor of the 2019 Cardiff 10K and 2K fun run. We are encouraging staff, students and the wider community to set themselves a challenge and sign up to this fantastic race through our capital city. Cardiff Met is one of the leading universities for student sport in the UK and we have a whole range of specialist advice we will be sharing in the lead up to race day in order to support participants with their preparations.”

Other sponsors include Nathaniel Cars, who will be providing the pace car as official vehicle sponsors, Brecon Carreg who will be keeping runners hydrated on race day as official water suppliers, Nation Radio who are this year’s media partner and Euroclad Group who are sponsoring the corporate challenge for the second year running. Independent running shop Run and Become is this year’s event associate sponsor, and hosted the Cardiff Met Cardiff 10K launch event on May 7.

The Cardiff Met Cardiff 10K, powered by Kidney Wales, is one of the stand-out road races in Wales and a firm favourite among the community.  Passing some of the capitals most iconic landmarks the fast and flat route makes this the perfect race for all abilities.  It really is a day for the entire family, with a 2K chip timed race available prior to the 10K race.   With the first event taking place in 1985, the Cardiff Met Cardiff 10K is now Wales’ longest running and largest 10K race and helps to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity each year with every step taken.

Nic Clarke, Director of Fundraising and Operations at Kidney Wales, said:

Kidney Wales is really pleased to have Cardiff Metropolitan University as the headline sponsor for the race.  By working with Cardiff Met we are looking to further grow the race and look at new ways to further develop and enhance the runners experience.  With the support from areas across the University we will be developing training plans, Nutrition and Sports massage to highlight just a few.

“This is an exciting new chapter in the history of the Cardiff Metropolitan University Cardiff 10K, and 2019 will be our best race so far.”

“Anyone can get involved in the Cardiff Met Cardiff 10K and it’s a fantastic day to be a part of, so please sign up, get involved and enjoy a great family day.”

The Cardiff Met Cardiff 10K road race invites runners to fundraise for charities of their choice. Over the past three decades the event has raised a staggering £1.7 million for a large number of Welsh charities, including race organisers Kidney Wales.
