Shingrig Road Overbridge – essential repair work
As part of Transport for Wales ongoing maintenance works to ensure the safety of the rail network, we will be completing essential repair works at Shingrig Road overbridge, Nelson, Treharris.
To better control the free-flowing traffic across the bridge, we have recently installed an improved traffic management system in the form of two-way traffic lights and water capacity barriers. Following their installation, we have been notified of several incidents involving members of the public breaching the conditions of the traffic management.
These measures are in place to ensure the safety of the public and the railway. We are urging members of the public to comply with the traffic management measures until they are removed in early December 2022. We thank you for your patience and cooperation.
What we’ll be doing
We are working closely with our partners to structurally strengthen Shingrig Road overbridge (shown below). In September 2022, we will be installing a propping system beneath the bridge to reinforce the structure. Upon completion by early late November 2022, the temporary traffic management system will be completely removed, and the bridge will be reopened to normal traffic (this excludes the use of any abnormal loading vehicles).
We will be using non-intrusive tools and keeping noise pollution to a minimum during the works.
Footpath and cycle path closures
To ensure the safety of the public, the footpath and cycle path below the bridge will be closed throughout the duration of the works.
