Six South Wales & South West families battling cancer will enjoy ‘Homes from Home’ this Christmas
Six families battling cancer will enjoy ‘Homes from Home’ this Christmas — thanks to donation from South Wales housebuilder
Barratt Developments South Wales has this week donated £1,000.00 from its Community Fund to Young Lives vs Cancer — a charity supporting children and young people across South Wales, living with cancer.
The money raised will go towards six families, who are unable to be at home this Christmas due to the essential treatment of a child, being able to stay in one of Young Lives vs Cancer’s free ‘Homes from Home’ — a comfortable space where they can forget about cancer and enjoy a sense of normality.
Like Isla and her family, who were able to enjoy Christmas day as a family while she was going through treatment, instead of staying in hospital, thanks to a Young Lives vs Cancer Home from Home in Bristol.
Isla’s one Christmas wish was to be with her entire family on the big day, and the Young Lives vs Cancer Home from Home enabled that to happen.
Cerys Sadler, Fundraising and Engagement Manager for South and Mid-Wales at Young Lives vs Cancer said: “Not only will the donation made by Barratt and David Wilson Homes South Wales give our young people a more enjoyable Christmas this year — it will enable us to further support them on their journey through education.
“By covering the cost of up to 42 hours of employment and educational support, the donation will allow us to co-work with the young person’s school, college or university to implement a plan to best support the student during their treatment — in turn, improving their career prospects.”
Children under the care of Tŷ Hafan — which provides paediatric palliative care to children and their families — will also benefit from the housebuilder’s generosity this festive season, with £2,500.00 from its Barratt Foundation bringing them one step closer to completing a new, inclusive play and therapies space for children with life-limiting conditions.
Meanwhile, the recent £3,500.00 donation will allow Llamau — which works to eradicate homelessness among young people and vulnerable women — to continue to run their Family Mediation and Healthy Relationships workshops and supported living accommodations.
Steve Williams, Managing Director at Barratt Homes South Wales said: “As the country’s largest housebuilder, we aim to lead the industry not only in the quality of the homes we build — but also in our work with charities and good causes.
“We’re therefore delighted to be donating £7,000 from our Community Fund and Barratt Foundation to such inspiring charities. The purpose of our Community Fund is to give back to the community — and so we hope our donations will help to give somewhat of a normal Christmas to these brave and inspiring young people.”
