Sky – Body – Spirit exhibition launches at Art Central Gallery
‘Could God be a woman’ and ‘Can paintings heal’ are some of the questions posed and explored by Cardiff based artist Prith B in her first solo exhibition at Art Central Gallery, Barry.
The exhibition showcases a range of artwork focusing on female portraiture, including large scale abstract canvases and an array of fascinating female portraits.
Prith B describes herself as a feminist artist, from an Indian, African heritage consciously questioning the aesthetic norms of how women and women of colour, are portrayed in art, in life, and how they are often absent from and unrepresented in history.
With support from the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Art Development Service and Friends Of Arts Central, an official launch event was held on 08 October 2022 which gave attendees the opportunity to learn about the inspirations and stories behind the artwork.
The Sky – Body – Spirit exhibit will remain open to the public until 12 November. Alongside the exhibition, Prith is hosting a series of creative workshops as part of the Arts Council of Wales Schools Creative Learning Programme.
The ‘Remember…’ workshop will take place on 22 October 11am-1pm and will explore and celebrate love and loss.
The second of the workshops, ‘Reclaiming Our Bodies – A Workshop for Women (or people who identify as women)’ will take place on 29 October 11am – 1pm and will explore perceptions of the body.
Bookings can be made on the Vale of Glamorgan website.
Artist, Prith B said: “We know that women artists are absent from art history and women are very often portrayed within a male gaze, but there is the added dimension of colour.
