McCarthy Stone, the leading manager and developer of retirement communities behind the Fern Court Retirement Living development on Gower Road in Swansea, is inviting local residents to showcase their talent with the launch of a new poetry competition.
McCarthy Stone is encouraging locals to get creative by tasking them to write their very own poem, which should be based on the theme of ‘nature’ to reflect the name of the development, Fern Court. The Chairwoman of Swansea and District Writer’s Circle, Ann Marie Thomas, will judge the competition, with the winning entrant being awarded £100.
Nicki Beswarick, Divisional Marketing Manager for McCarthy Stone Southern, commented: “With spring on the way, we thought it was only fitting to launch a nature themed poetry competition to encourage people in Swansea to express themselves and be imaginative with their writing.
“We’d like to encourage anyone in Swansea who is interested in poetry writing or would simply like to turn their hand to a new hobby, to enter into our competition for the opportunity to win £100.”
Each entrant is permitted to submit one poem. These should be emailed to mccarthyandstone@mccann.com by the closing date of Friday 7th May 2021 with ‘Swansea Poetry Contest’ in the subject. In your email you should include your full name and your contact details. The competition is open to all ages. Under 16’s must ask an adult’s permission.
Comprising 45 one and two-bedroom apartments, Fern Court features a spacious homeowners’ lounge, landscaped gardens, and a convenient guest suite for when friends and family come to stay. Terms and Conditions
- The competition is open to all UK residents, except employees of McCarthy Stone, their immediate family or anyone directly connected with this competition.
- Entries must be entirely the work of the entrant. All submitters warrant that they own the poems submitted and they have exclusive copyright.
- Entries submitted posthumously will not be eligible.
- The closing date for receipt of entries is midnight on Friday 7th May.
- To enter the competition, email entries to: mccarthyandstone@mccann.com and include ‘Swansea Poetry Contest’ in the subject header, and also your name and contact details in the email.
- The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify inappropriate, incomplete or illegible entries.
- Entrants are permitted to submit one poem and may only enter once.
- By entering into the competition, the entrant automatically grants McCarthy Stone with an unrestricted, non-exclusive, irrevocable and perpetual licence to use any poems submitted to the competition for any purpose in which McCarthy Stone deem appropriate for their own business purposes. Authors will receive credit with each use.
- This competition will be judged by the Secretary of Swansea and District Writer’s Circle, Tony Alexander, in an independent and fair manner. The judge’s decision is final, and no individual correspondence shall be entered into. The judge is unable to comment on individual entries.
- The organisers reserve the right to change the panel of judge without notice and not to award prizes if, in the opinion of the judge, such action is justified.
- Entering the competition implies acceptance of all the above rules. Failure to comply with the entry requirements will result in disqualification. McCarthy Stone reserve the right to withdraw this competition as a result of unforeseen circumstances arising.
- There is one prize of £100 for 1st place.
- Prize winner(s) will be notified by Friday 28th May and invited to a photo shoot at a later date at Fern Court, subject to Covid-19 restrictions. We will notify the winner by email and/or telephone. If the winner cannot be contacted within one-week McCarthy Stone reserve the right to choose an alternative winner.
- The winner agrees to take part in non-paid publicity following their poem being chosen (including photography if required), relating to the competition.
- The entrant’s personal data shall only be used for the proper administration of the competition unless the entrant has expressly opted in to receiving future marketing communications from McCarthy Stone via the entry form.
