PEOPLE thinking of standing as a candidate in the Local Elections have until 4pm on Tuesday April 5 to submit their nomination.

People across Carmarthenshire will go to the polls on Thursday May 5 to elect who they wish to represent their local communities in the county and town and community councils over the next five years.

Standing for election to become a local councillor is the perfect opportunity for people who want to make a difference to their local area.

Councillors not only represent their communities and residents, they also help to make and shape council policies. Whilst they do not directly manage services, they do make the decisions on what those services will be like.

Councillors are unique in the range of issues they deal with and the positive impact they can have on both individuals and the local area.

Councils across Wales are encouraging more women and people from under-represented groups to consider standing as candidates in the May 5 Local Elections.

People are able to stand for election by representing a political party, or as an independent candidate.

Anyone wishing to stand must download a nomination form from www.electoralcommission.org.uk or contact Carmarthenshire County Council’s elections office – by email, ElectoralServices@carmarthenshire.gov.uk; by phone, 01267 228889; or in person at Block 4, Parc Myrddin, Richmond Terrace, Carmarthen, SA31 1HQ.

Nomination forms must be submitted no later than 4pm on Tuesday, April 5, 2022.

To ensure that nominations are received safely and securely, it is recommended that papers are delivered by hand to the Returning Officer at the Council Chamber, County Hall, Carmarthen, SA31 1JP, between 10am and 4pm Monday-Friday. Alternatively, nomination papers can be scanned and emailed to Nominations22@carmarthenshire.gov.uk.
