Station Improvement works to begin at Flint and Runcorn East stations

15 Jun 2023

As part of Transport for Wales’ (TfW) Station Improvement Vision, work to deliver improvements to customer facilities at Flint and Runcorn East stations will begin this month.

At the end of June work will begin on a number of upgrades that aim to enhance the overall customer experience of visitors to Flint and Runcorn East stations. The projects will primarily focus on customer improvements within the stations and will include CCTV, help points, passenger waiting and cycle shelters, seating, lighting, waste facilities, signage and branding. Flint station works will also include improvements to the ticket office, waiting rooms, including water refill units, toilet refurbishments, new CIS screens and landscaping.

TfW will also be completing a Social and Commercial Development Project to transform the disused building on platform 1 at Flint station, creating two new community rooms, a staff room and a new passenger waiting room. This project focuses on renovating underutilised space to generate additional activity at stations, maximising the use of space for community and commercial purposes.

Lisa Cleminson, Stations Director said, “We are delighted to be progressing with this project. These station improvements offer tangible benefits to our customers and visitors to Flint and Runcorn East stations. The investment in the disused building at Flint station will improve the way the station looks and will provide more commercial and community opportunities. This significant investment in both stations will introduce an array of new and upgraded facilities and will really enhance the overall customer experience.”

TfW are working closely with contractor Taziker, industry and local partners on this project and the aim of these improvements is to provide a better customer experience for our passengers.

Kim Hawkins, Group Station Manager said, “We are happy to see this investment in customer facilities throughout our stations and I am confident that staff will support both our customers and contractors on site, to ensure we minimise disruption. We will continue to work collaboratively to ensure our stations are safe, accessible and welcoming places for passengers.”

The aim of these improvements is to provide an enhanced customer experience and work is currently scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023. TfW is encouraging customers to plan in extra time to allow for potential disruption.
