Strategic acquisition boosts Swansea’s redevelopment plans
Coastal Housing has acquired the former ‘H Phillips Electrical’ store at 225 High Street in Swansea as part of its continued regeneration of the area.
The building has stood empty for over a decade and is located next to a void where Coastal demolished 226 High Street in 2022 to make way for the planned, third phase of Coastal’s Urban Village redevelopment project. This corner plot acquisition unlocks huge potential to expand the scope of the next phase of redevelopment.
“We’re absolutely delighted with this acquisition,” says Coastal’s Executive Director of Development and Regeneration, Kelly Thomas. “It’s a site our regeneration team has had on their wish list for many, many years due to its location next to an existing development site at 226 High Street and buildings that formed the earlier phases of the Urban Village project. Bringing it into Coastal’s portfolio means we can increase the scope of our ambitions for the future regeneration of the High Street.”
Coastal has a longstanding commitment to the regeneration of High Street, having invested nearly £30 million in the area over the last decade or so, through strategic acquisitions and redevelopment. Earlier this year it acquired the former Kings Arms Tavern and has plans to redevelop this listed building before bringing it back into commercial use.
