Strong demand for new homes in Cardiff seen at city housing development

New homes are selling faster than they can be built at a housing development in Cardiff.

There are just five houses remaining for sale at Bellway’s Highfields development off Church Road, Old St Mellons, where building work won’t even be completed until July.

Bellway is building 156 new homes at the development, alongside public open space.

Billie Oaten, Sales Director for Bellway Wales, said:

“Basically, we’ve sold in a flash. Interest levels have been high from the start at Highfields, and it’s still selling well. For example, we had four house sales here in the first full week of January.

“There’s certainly no shortage of interest in new homes in Cardiff. We genuinely are selling them more quickly then we can build them at Highfields, so with just five homes left for sale now, potential buyers should get in touch as soon as possible.”

The five remaining houses are all four-bedroom detached properties, with prices currently starting from £325,995.

When Bellway acquired the land in 2017, Mike Rees of Bruton Knowles, acting on behalf of the Welsh Government and Heron Land, said:

“At a time when Cardiff and the whole of South Wales needs more new housing … a high demand is expected.”

The prediction proved correct. The development of three, four and five-bedroom houses was Bellway’s fastest-selling development in the region last year.

Billie said:

“Many of our customers are moving out from Cardiff, and – now the Severn Bridge tolls have gone – from Bristol as well. We’ve also had individual customers from as far afield as Chester and London.

“I think people can see this is an attractive and well-placed site, with quick connections to a wonderful capital city, good road links, and handy for everything from the shops to the hospital.”

She said the development was attracting a wide cross-section of customers, with Cardiff commuters including doctors and nurses from the nearby University Hospital of Wales, plus couples, downsizers and families.
