Fonmon Castle near Barry is known for its dinosaur park, Medieval village, beautiful gardens and wildlife walks – but over the summer it offers much more besides, with exciting activities taking place every weekend.

On July 29 and 30, a Medieval Weekend will feature a one-of-a-kind foot combat display full of smashing heads and clashing armour. There will also be living history displays with swords and weapons and skills on show from the medieval period.

The Fonmon Pirate Weekend, on August 5 and 6, is a swashbuckling adventure with opportunities to walk the plank, test your skills with ropes and knots, and engage in a super-soaking battle with the castle’s live-action pirates.

On August 12 and 13, the Pantoland weekend is a joyful summer party starring all your panto favourites, from Mother Twanky to Cinderella. With live music and games on the lawn, it will be a weekend of fun and panto giggles.

On August 19 and 20 the castle transforms into Gotham Manor for a Batman & Superheroes weekend with guest appearances from the Caped Crusader, The Joker and the official Batman car from the 1989 ‘Tim Burton’ Movie.

Get back to nature on the August bank holiday weekend with the Fonmon Medieval Harvest Festival featuring food, fun and living history in the Medieval Village.

On top of all the above weekend events, there will be a Classic Car Show on August 16, featuring beautiful cars and a family fun day with adventure, fun and laughter for all.

Ross O’Hennessy, who runs the attractions at Fonmon, says it will be the castle’s biggest summer yet.

“We’re really excited to be welcoming people throughout the summer with a host of fun activities that will keep the kids entertained and bring plenty of fun and enjoyment for their parents too,” he said. “There’s so much to discover at the castle any day of the week, including our Jurassic Wales Dinosaur Park, the Medieval Village, wildlife walks, story trails and hidden gardens – and all of these will be fully available to people who attend our summer events, at no extra cost.”
