Supporting Young Ukrainian Artists Through ‘Eisteddfod Ukraine’

Maesteg resident Gemma Cooper has been organising an inspiring annual event, ‘Eisteddfod Ukraine’, dedicated to school children in Odesa, Ukraine. This unique initiative provides a platform for young Ukrainians to express themselves creatively through music, visual arts, and writing, honouring those affected by conflict.

The project aims to help children cope with the trauma of war by offering a positive and engaging outlet for their talents. The Eisteddfod showcases the resilience and creativity of the young schoolchildren.

This year’s competition featured a diverse range of entries, including inspiring paintings and drawings, and a beautifully crafted beadwork bracelet.

Ogmore MS Huw Irranca-Davies who was asked to judge the event and provide prizes for the winners commented:  “It was a pleasure to be asked by Gemma to participate in this wonderful project, and it was difficult to choose a winner from the fantastic entries.

The artwork and creativity on display were truly moving and well done to Gemma for her continued dedication to this meaningful project and to the talented children from Odesa for their powerful contributions.”
