Swansea city centre businesses report they saw a huge boost in retail sales and footfall, thanks to the city’s annual Student Shopping Night on Oct 4.
Designed to give new students a positive first experience of the city centre, the event saw businesses unite to create a truly unique experience. Retailer sales increased by 6% when compared with last year’s event and 12% more students attended.
The Quadrant Shopping Centre, Oxford Street and Swansea Indoor Market transformed into spaces of entertainment and experiential activities; all to encourage spend and return visits to the city centre.
Commenting on the success of the event is Quadrant Shopping Centre manager, Lisa Hartley:
“This event has been a huge boost to businesses within The Quadrant, and across the city centre. The Quadrant became a hub for some incredible activations which included an impressive DJ stage courtesy of Plan B, a roaming drag show by Diana D, and even free haircuts by Gentlemen’s Choice.
“It was also an opportunity for the city’s hospitality industry to join forces with retail to become a real stand-out event for the thousands of event-goers. Our neighbours at Swansea Indoor Market also opened for the first time, which was fantastic, as it really gave students the best possible opportunity to experience everything we have to offer as a vibrant city!”
