A local health charity has received a £1,000 donation from the Amazon fulfilment centre in Swansea.

Swansea Bay Health Charity is the official charity of Swansea Bay University Health Board. With a focus on supporting its staff, patients and services, the charity raises funds and awareness for scientific research, training, development, patient care and medical equipment.

The donation provided by Amazon to Swansea Bay Health Charity was allocated to the Helping Hands Appeal. This appeal can help patients and staff throughout the health board and doctors and nurses on the frontline decide where the money is best spent.

The donation from Amazon allowed the charity to provide additional comfort to patients over Christmas, when they were unable to see their families.

Speaking on the donation, Chris Law, General Manager at Amazon in Swansea, said:

“We are pleased to make this donation to Swansea Bay Health Charity, an organisation that does important work in our community and across South Wales.”

Deborah Longman, Head of Fundraising from Swansea Bay Health Charity said:

“We’re grateful to Chris and the Amazon team in Swansea for this donation. The fulfilment centre in Swansea have provided us with a lot of support during the pandemic, and this additional financial donation is fantastic. We rely on donations like this to continue to support both patients and staff of Swansea Bay Health Board and the gesture is really appreciated.”

The donation was made as part of the “Amazon in the Community” programme, whereby the company supports the communities around its operating locations across the UK.

Community donations are one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK during COVID-19.

Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering over 2 million healthy breakfasts to families around the UK.
