Take two for Amazon’s strongest man
A 26-year-old from Newport who works as an operations specialist at Amazon in Bristol is competing for the title of Wales’s Strongest Man this month.
Luke Sperduti joined the company in 2020, where he progressed to the role of operations supervisor in September 2021.
Before joining Amazon, Luke spent almost five years in the Corps of Royal Engineers, where his love for powerlifting really took off.
Luke said: “Ever since I was young, I’ve loved watching the strongest man competitions on TV. In the Army I had a real drive for physical fitness, and after being encouraged to powerlift, I realised I had a knack for it, and thought it was something I could pursue.”
Luke left the Army to give becoming a strongman his full attention, coming 2nd in Wales’s Strongest Man and Woman in 2022 and 10th in UK’s Strongest Man in 2023.
In the mornings, Luke has a big bowl of cereal before a two-hour training session in the gym, after which he will have a quick bite of eggs on toast, or maybe a treat from Greggs. On his first break after arriving at work, he has two servings of curry and rice, or something similar.
During his second break he has another helping of pasta or another carb source, as well as having a protein shake before bed and snacking throughout the day.
In total, Luke tries to eat between 6000 and 6500 calories a day to fuel his training regime and gain the muscle that will help him in his pursuit for the title of Wales’s Strongest Man.
Luke continued: “I really believe I can push myself and go far. I have to be committed and push for it, but the dream is to compete at the World’s Strongest Man. Even being there would be amazing. I wouldn’t be able to do it without the backing of Amazon, my gym and of course my girlfriend.”
Speaking on Luke’s efforts, Amazon Bristol Delivery Station Manager, Nils Venhuizen said, “Luke is a great asset to our team and we are all very excited to cheer him on as he takes part in his competition. We have seen first-hand how much time and effort he’s put into his preparation and are proud of him already. Good luck, Luke!”
