Team one2one smash 2.6 challenge to raise over £900 for Velindre Hospital
These are challenging times, but a physiotherapy, sports and wellbeing centre in Bridgend has proven itself more than up to the challenges of lockdown and Covid-19, with staff members and their families successfully navigating a series of #2.6challenge family events while maintaining social distancing to raise over £900 (and still counting) for Velindre Cancer Centre.
Here’s some of the 2.6 themed challenges the inventive team undertook:
- The Centre’s Triathlon group did a 26 mile virtual bike ride on Zwift, led by GB Triathlete Adam Bowden.
- Adam then did 26 keep ups with a soccer ball for good measure!
- Physiotherapist Angharad’s young son, Gruff, proudly cycled 26 laps of his garden while wearing wellies!
- Clinic Director Rhian accompanied her 9 year old son, Rhys, as he smashed an astonishing 26km Duathlon on the treadmill and bike – meanwhile other son Harri, not to be outdone, did an incredible 26 hill reps.
- Both Pilates Instructor Tina Lloyd and Practice Manager Tracy did a 2.6 mile run. Tracy’s children Kate and Rowan also ran – and also added 26 bicep curls to add to the challenge!
- Receptionist Charlotte Johns and her family managed between them a 2.6 cycle and run, a 26km cycle, 26 mins on the cross trainer – and our favourite, a 26 Pringles race!
- Sports Massage Therapist Heidi and her daughters undertook a 2 minute 6 second synchronised swim in their garden
- Annie Williams and her young daughters did a 2.6km scoot, with her 2 young daughters also doing 26 see saws – and her parents joined in to make it a family affair. Her Dad, Rugby legend JPR Williams, completed 26 crosswords and her Mum pulled up 26 challenging weeds! Incredible.
- Clinic receptionist Bethan Jones downed 26 shots with her awesome Dad – but you’ll have to watch the video on one2one’s Facebook page to see what the shots were!
All the activities were filmed and shared live on social media, and followed the team’s incredible video performance for the BBC’s Big Night In Dancing challenge earlier in the week.
Centre Director Rhian Davies said they were hugely uplifted by supporters donations, which took the total to over 4 times their original target of £200. Rhian said:
“The 2.6 challenge is particularly close to our hearts, so we really wanted to go out there and smash it – but we never expected the donations to smash our original £200 target quite so spectacularly. The team had great fun choosing and undertaking these personal challenges. I want to thank everyone who supported this worthy campaign, and to congratulate the one2one team for again proving how incredible they are.
“My only concern now is how we top this next year – out of lockdown!”
