Cardiff Bay’s iconic entertainment venue, The Red Dragon Centre, hosted pupils from St Cuthbert’s Primary School in Cardiff Bay yesterday (May 20) to mark World Bee Day.
As part of an eco-friendly campaign, pupils from the school took part in a range of fun and educational activities at the Centre, in partnership with Ground Control, Welsh Wildlife and Cardiff Nature Partnership.

Ground Control, The Red Dragon Centre’s biodiversity and sustainability management company, provided a Bee Education workshop, teaching the children about the vital role bees play in our ecosystem, with an emphasis on pollination and food production. They introduced them to the new bee hotels which will be installed in sunny, south-facing spots beside the Centre’s soon-to-be wild meadows, which the students helped prepare by assisting Ground Control with seed spreading. They also learned how wildflower meadows are created and received seed bombs to grow at home.
In another activity, held in collaboration with Welsh Wildlife and Cardiff Nature Partnership, the children used natural materials like sticks and leaves found on-site to create a large bug hotel that will be installed at the Centre.

These activities are part of the Centre’s wider commitment to biodiversity and sustainability, supporting its ongoing application for Bee Friendly status through the Wales Biodiversity Partnership.
Earlier this year, the Centre kicked off its campaign by planting pollinator-friendly heather plants and hosting a free family-friendly event to celebrate Earth Day, partnering with Cardiff Nature Partnership for the occasion.
Emma Constantinou, Marketing Manager at The Red Dragon Centre, said: “It was so wonderful to welcome St Cuthbert’s Primary School to the Centre for our World Bee Day activities. We are determined to maximise what we can do to become more eco and bee friendly, and it has been great to see so much enthusiasm around our ‘Buzz in the Bay’ campaign.
“I can’t wait to see the bee hotels, bug hotels and new outdoor meadows installed around the Centre and the biodiversity benefits it will bring. Thank you again to the pupils and staff at St Cuthbert’s Primary School for their help and for celebrating World Bee Day with us.”
The Red Dragon Centre is a hub of entertainment, leisure, and dining in Cardiff Bay. It’s home to a range of attractions, including ODEON Cinema, featuring Wales’ only IMAX screen, Hollywood Bowl, Grosvenor Casino, and The Fitness Quarter, all of which continue to draw visitors and play a key role in the Centre’s ongoing success.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of global cuisines and casual dining options from popular names like Five Guys, Spice Route, Volcano, EasyThali, EveryTime, Zaika, and the newly added Buffet Tonight.
The Centre is also the site of the Capital FM South Wales studio, which was formerly Red Dragon FM, as well as Heart FM. Today, you’ll find the likes of Josh and Kally broadcasting their Capital Drive Show live from there every weekday.
