Since launching in 2004, it’s fair to say that the Escape, a luxurious and quirky boutique B&B in Llandudno, has been hitting the headlines for all the right reasons.

Praised twice by the Times, once in 2013 for having one of the UK’s “sexiest hotel rooms” and then again in 2014 for being one of the UK’s most luxurious hotels, it was also named as one of the UK’s “coolest hotels” by Essentials Magazine,

The luxury hotel, which features a unique collection of 9 rooms each decorated in their own unique style, was the brainchild of Owners Sam Nayar and Gaenor Loftus, who decided to “escape” their hectic lifestyles after the birth of their daughter Grace.  With no expense spared, their imaginative refurbishment of the building has created an “escape” like no other, with imaginative themes and luxury in every touch, from the stylish Elemis toiletries to the intricate detail of the imaginative decor.

We stayed in the Coastal Room – which, based on a beach-hut theme, was perfect given the hotel’s proximity to the beach and pier, just a gentle stroll away, and offers plenty of natural light, which sets off the crisp, clean theme perfectly.

The nautical decor features white-washed wood panelled walls, highlighted by bold deckchair stripes, finished perfectly by jute flooring, and the duo’s fine attention to detail includes a real pair of oars as part of the decor!  The perfectly placed table and chairs in the window offers a perfect place to sit and read a newspaper (or catch up on a little work), and the indulgently large bathroom was world’s apart from the all-too-standard boxes that feature in many modern hotel bathrooms.  As my other half put it, “finally a bathtub big enough for me!”

We only stayed one night on a business trip, but we’ll be staying longer next time.

The other room options include “The Boudoir”, an indulgently romantic room with LED crystal encrusted wallpaper, and ‘The Loft” , an unashamedly luxurious room with three separate levels – with plenty more options to choose from.

Forget formal, stuffy hotels with bellboys and porters, this is a far more intimate and relaxed experience altogether and the personal service is part of the charm.

The Escape oozes privacy, quality and cosy comforts from arrival to checkout and it’s no surprise that the hotel attracts celebrities, rock bands and VIP’s including TV stars such as Jonny Vegas & Janet Street Porter – although it’s biggest secret is perhaps the personal attention that Sam and Gaynor (along with Lowri, who gave us the warmest welcome ever!), lavish on their guests.  Nothing is too much trouble, these perfect hosts know how to help guests relax and are delighted to help with dining suggestions and places to go.  The experience really does feel like an ‘escape’ from the hassle and stress of modern life, a chance to kick back, feel a little pampered and just enjoy being looked after in what feels like a private oasis away from the world.

We absolutely loved our stay and if you are ever heading up this way, we can’t recommend ‘The Escape’ highly enough.
