The Welsh Players To Look Out For When The Premier League Returns
The Premier League is back with 92 fixtures left to play in the 2019-20 season. Supporters from all around the world will be tuning in to watch their favourite stars and fans from Wales are no exception. Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey may be playing abroad but much of the current Welsh national team ply their trade in the Premier League. Here are some Welsh players to look out for – both current internationals and some potential future ones – when the Premier League returns.
Harry Wilson
AFC Bournemouth’s Harry Wilson (above) has found some form this season. The attacking midfielder is on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool and has already bagged seven goals for Eddie Howe’s men. Wilson is the youngest player to ever play for his country and has developed well in recent years. The Wrexham-born man certainly didn’t have the privilege of using the National Football Centre that recently opened in the city. One gets the feeling that it will be a big run of games for Wilson between now and the end of the season ahead of his return to Anfield.
Wales fans will also be keeping an eye out for one of Wilson’s Bournemouth teammates. Chris Mepham was enjoying a good season for Eddie Howe’s side before picking up that knee injury in January. He could well return for the Cherries and play a prominent role in the weeks to come.
Jordan Davies
Here’s a player who is on the cusp of making a breakthrough. Jordan Davies is a 21-year-old centre-back for Brighton & Hove Albion who has featured prominently for the club’s Under-23 side in recent seasons. Davies is behind the likes of Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy in the pecking order but squad rotation could be important for the remainder of the season.
Ben Davies
One man who is facing a battle to feature for his team is Ben Davies. The full-back was a key part of Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham sides for several years but is up against it under Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese boss has deployed the young Englishmen Japhet Tanganga and Ryan Sessegnon down Spurs’ left flank but is clearly a fan of Davies. It’s vital for Wales that Ben Davies gets first-team football in the coming weeks and months as the former Swansea man is a key player for his country.
Neil Taylor
From one former Swansea City left-back to another, Neil Taylor is on the cusp of the first-team at Aston Villa. He’s made 10 Premier League appearances this season but could feature in one of the first matches played when the Premier League returns. Taylor’s Aston Villa welcome Sheffield United to Villa Park on June 17th hoping to secure the three points in their bid to avoid relegation. They’re the outsiders to do so at 9/4 on Betway as of June 4th but hopefully, for Taylor and Wales, they’ll get the result they need.
Daniel James
He’s the brightest young talent in this Wales squad and Daniel James is aiming to finish up his debut season in the Premier League in style. The young winger signed for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side last summer and has become an established squad player. He’s already bagged four goals in a United shirt and will be looking to add to that tally in the matches to come. Another Welshman looking to star for United in the matches to come is Dylan Levitt. The 19-year-old midfielder has become an increasingly important part of Manchester United’s Under-23 side and isn’t far from the first-team setup.
Terry Taylor and Chem Campbell
This pair has a lot in common. Terry Taylor and Chem Campbell are both in their late-teens and featuring regularly for the Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-23s. Both are midfielders and have represented Wales at youth level. They’ll be hoping for a breakthrough into the Wolves first-team in the weeks to come and aim to impress Ryan Giggs and the Wales setup.
Paul Dummett
Finally, Paul Dummett is expected to feature regularly for Newcastle United in the matches to come. The defender is hardly a Wales regular – just five appearances in five years for the 28-year-old – but is certainly important for his club. Dummett has already made 16 Premier League appearances this season and will certainly make a few more before the season is up. There is expected to be a lot of change at Newcastle given the club’s recent takeover so it will be interesting to see how Dummett gets on in the matches to come.
