Torfaen county borough council is putting an emergency road closure on Commercial Street, Pontypool from 7am tomorrow morning (9th of June).

The closure will remain in place for several days to undertake emergency repairs to collapsed sewerage pipes. A shaft will be excavated and tunnels dug to allow Dwr Cymru contractors to undertake the work.

The road closure is required between the Park Road roundabout and the junction with Glantorvaen Road at the traffic lights near Civic Centre and Pontypool Library.

The damaged pipe is currently affecting only a small number of properties in Portland building and Commercial Street will remain fully open for pedestrians access.

All car parks in the town will remain open and the outdoor market will operate as normal on Wednesday.

Temporary traffic signals are already in place to allow investigatory work but it is likely to create traffic disruption for several days.

Emergency services, businesses, schools and bus providers have all been notified.
