Two South Wales girls celebrate success in festive card competition
Two young girls from Swansea and Port Talbot have beaten entries from across the UK to win one of the top prizes in a festive postcard competition.
Paul Morgan, who works as an Associate at Amazon in Swansea, entered five-year-old Lili-Rose’s design while Amalia Iagar who works at the Amazon Delivery Station in Port Talbot, entered five-year-old Aleca’s design into the national competition run across all of Amazon’s UK sites.
As two of five runner ups in the 0-11 age category, Lili-Rose and Aleca both received a £100 Amazon voucher in recognition of their creative festive postcard design.
The competition is part of a longstanding partnership between Amazon and the charity Magic Breakfast, which provides healthy breakfasts to children in disadvantaged areas of the UK to combat food poverty.
When schools shut earlier this year due to COVID-19, Amazon worked with Magic Breakfast to deliver food parcels directly to the doorsteps of thousands of children around the UK. Amazon has now delivered two million meals to vulnerable children across the UK this year.
The festive card competition challenged Amazon team members and their families to design a festive-themed postcard to be included in boxes of Magic Breakfast food delivered to families throughout December. Entries were judged on inclusion of festive elements, positive messages, creativity, inclusivity and appropriateness for all audiences. Lili-Rose and Paul’s design features a very clever snowman in a bubble who is urging everyone to ‘please keep in your bubble so we all can have a Merry Christmas’, whilst Aleca and Amalia’s design features a very full amazon box bursting with items and the message to ‘stay safe’.
Paul said: “I absolutely love the festive season and I can’t believe Lili-Rose’s card has come runner up in a national competition! Thank you, Amazon, for our £100 voucher – we will be treating ourselves.”
Chris Law, General Manager at Amazon in Swansea added: “Everyone at Amazon in Swansea and Port Talbot is proud of Lili-Rose and Aleca and we send our congratulations to them both. We were so pleased to hear that two of the runners up in Amazon’s national competition are from South Wales and hope they enjoy their well-deserved prizes.”
Paul and Amalia entered the postcards in the competition’s 0-11 age category.
One national winner was selected from the 18+ age category and another category winner was selected from the remaining two age categories (0-11 and 12-17), both receiving donations for a local school. Five finalists in each category received a £100 Amazon voucher.
The festive card competition is part of the “Amazon in the Community” programme, whereby the company supports the communities around its operating locations across the UK.
Community donations are one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK. Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering 2 million healthy breakfasts to families around the UK.
