UFC innovations that skyrocket to the top: BMF belt that has raised interest in the UFC

The UFC’s Universal Style Fighting Series regularly holds numbered tournaments. In addition to this, permanent belts are drawn, changing hands from champion to champion. There is also the opportunity to put together a full house within your own weight class, or move up to another, following the example of many popular boxers of today.

Still, the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s board of directors, led by Dana White, has been relentless in coming up with tweaks and features to make the Ultimate Fighting Championship an even more entertaining spectacle. Though bouts in this kind of combat are a lot less clear-cut than in classic sports.

Ranking UFC tournaments according to their prestige

In total there are five types of tournaments, and two of them, in fact, are meant for the American domestic audience. The level of participants is appropriate. But what the series, including UFC bookmakers, earns from is paid broadcasts and advertising contracts. The lion’s share of that comes from “numbered tournaments”.

Each numbered event up to and including UFC 92 had nine fights per night. They went on the schedule in ascending order – from the preliminary card to the main card, transiting through the prelims. After UFC 100 the organizers came to a conclusion that increasing popularity of the series made them to hold at least ten fights during the evening. By the summer of 2022 they had already organized less than three hundred numbered tournaments and almost each of them had a fight of global interest.

BMF belt idea

In October 2019, just one of the numbered tournaments took place, namely UFC 244, in which another title, an extraordinary one, was contested. In Nate Diaz’s bout against Jorge Masvidal, the latter won by technical knockout. Along with his success, Jorge earned the title of ‘Baddest mother f…er’, as well as an exclusive belt, individually for his own collection.

The famous UFC competitor Joanna Jedrzejczyk ended her career in 2022, losing only two fights out of 21 during her professional career. And the only motivation for her to come back is exactly the BMF title, which already speaks of the incredible success of the idea. Yet the UFC in general, and Dan White in particular, know how to do not only the show, but also marketing at the highest level of quality!
