The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) and Bishop’s University in Ontario, Canada have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to share expertise, facilitate students and staff study exchange, and explore collaborative research opportunities.

The collaboration with Bishop’s University, known for its focus on providing quality education in various disciplines, including fine arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, and education, will provide an opportunity to enrich the academic experience for UWTSD students. This will be supported through the Taith scheme which is an international learning exchange programme established to create life-changing opportunities for people in Wales to learn, study and volunteer all over the world.

Taith is an inclusive programme which offers additional support for participants from disadvantaged backgrounds and with additional learning needs, enabling those with fewer opportunities to participate in transformational experiences.

This partnership is the latest in a portfolio of programmes available to UWTSD students from a wide range of geographical areas and offers them a truly global education experience. International students and staff enrich the student experience, enhance learning and teaching, and help to make Welsh graduates more prepared for work.

This partnership will aim to provide valuable opportunities for both students and staff through Taith including staff mobility, and student group mobility in addition to enabling students to spend a semester studying abroad.

Bishop’s University is an English–language university located in the Eastern Townships region of the province of Quebec that offers a selection of more than 100 study programmes.

The emphasis on residential life at Bishop’s University, with its predominantly undergraduate focus and small size, creates an immersive environment for students. This aspect of the university experience aligns well with the University’s goals of providing a holistic education.

Kath Griffiths, International Regional manager (North America and Outward Mobility), Wales Global Academy said:

“There will be opportunities for staff and student group mobility, along with opportunities for a semester abroad with funding available through Taith, there will be a broad range of possibilities for cultural exchange and academic exploration. This not only enhances the educational experience but also our strengthens our existing connections to Canada.

“Fostering international connections is so important for the internationalisation of both institutions, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact this collaboration will have on the academic and personal growth of both UWTSD and Bishop’s University students and staff.”
