Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board has published a breakdown of vaccination rates in Bridgend County Borough on a ward-by-ward basis.

The figures highlight how many people in each ward have received both shots of the Covid-19 vaccine, and reveal how groups ranging in number from more than 2,000 to fewer than 200 have yet to receive both shots.

In total, more than 104,000 residents of Bridgend County Borough are fully vaccinated against coronavirus. This includes 88 per cent of people living in Nottage and Rest Bay, while for Penyfai, Newton, Litchard and Coychurch Lower, the rate is 85 per cent.

In Felindre and Cefn Glas, 84 per cent of residents are fully vaccinated, and 83 per cent in Llangwynydd. Coity, Penprysg, Hendre, Maesteg East, Aberkenfig and Porthcawl West Central all stand at 82 per cent, and Blaengarw, Bryncethin, Llangeinor and Ogmore Vale are at 81 per cent.

Eighty percent of residents living in Porthcawl East Central, Pendre, Maesteg West, Ynysawdre and Newcastle have received both vaccinations. In the Llangewydd and Brynhyfryd, Cefn Cribwr and Bryntirion, Laleston and Merthyr Mawr wards, the rate is 79 per cent.

Blackmill, Brackla, Pontycymmer and Oldcastle are at 78 per cent, and Bryncoch and Sarn stand at 77 per cent vaccinated. For Cornelly, Nantymoel, Caerau and Pyle, the completion rate is 76 per cent.

Finally, 75 per cent of residents living in Bettws and 74 per cent in the Morfa wards are fully vaccinated.

The Leader, Cllr Huw David said: “While population figures will vary greatly between some communities and it is important not to interpret this information as being some kind of league table, it is never the less concerning to note that not everyone who is eligible for vaccination has completed the process.

“Some people may have received their first shot, but not their second. Whatever the reason for this may be, it is absolutely essential to get both shots in order for the vaccine to be effective.

“Anyone aged 16 and over who has yet to receive their first dose of the vaccine can do so with no prior booking by visiting a Covid-19 Vaccination Centre.

“Walk-in appointments are available at community vaccination centres located all across the Cwm Taf region, including at Ravens Court in Bridgend town centre (CF31 4AP) between 11am and 4.30pm.

“Anyone who wishes to take advantage of the walk-in appointments will need to bring along a form of ID such as a passport, drivers licence or a utility bill for proof of address – that’s all you need.

“The more people who are vaccinated against Covid-19, the sooner the global pandemic will be over and we can return to normal life once more. I encourage anyone who has not already done so to complete their vaccinations as quickly as possible, and to do their bit to keep the local community safe.”

Details of other vaccination centres in the region are available on the health board’s website.
