WAVDA’s Spectacular Season: Showcasing Emerging Talent

This spring, Cardiff will showcase the exceptional talents of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s Wales Academy of Voice and Dramatic Arts (WAVDA) students through a series of captivating performances. From spellbinding musical theatre productions to high-energy commercial dance showcases, this season offers audiences a front-row seat to the future of performing arts.
The upcoming events promise to deliver an eclectic mix of theatrical experiences, beginning with an exhilarating adaptation of The Rocky Horror Show on 13th and 14th March at Studio Theatre, Haywood House. This cult classic, performed by Musical Theatre and Commercial Dance undergraduates, promises to captivate audiences with its eccentric characters and rock ‘n’ roll sci-fi gothic energy.
Welsh-language theatre also takes centre stage with BA Perfformio student performing a Welsh adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Breuddwyd Nos Ŵyl Ifan, set in the 1980s New Romantics era. Taking place on 3rd and 4th April at Studio Theatre, Haywood House, this adaptation brings an enchanting mix of magic, romance, and contemporary dance to life.
Another highlight of the season is the BA WAVDA Showcase on 22nd May at Cabaret, Wales Millennium Centre. This special industry showcase brings together the most promising graduating performers, offering a powerful display of monologues, ensemble performances, and musical numbers. Designed to introduce fresh talent to casting agents, directors, and audiences alike, this showcase is a defining moment for students as they step into the professional world.
On the 24th of May at Haywood House, the Commercial Dance Level 4 Performance Project & Level 5 Collaborative Project will take place. This electrifying showcase will highlight innovative movement and choreography from talented students, setting the stage for the Commercial Dance: Performance Project & Collaborative Project the following day on 25th May.
The season continues with Musical Theatre, Perfformio, Theatr Gerddorol’s performance of Mal Pope’s hit musical, Amazing Grace, set to take place at Sherman Theatre on 27th and 28th May. Though full details are yet to be confirmed, this production is expected to be a highlight of the season.
For classical music lovers, the BMus Vocal Performance series from 2nd – 14th June will feature breathtaking vocal talent, while the Commercial Dance: Performance Project & Collaborative Project Final Production on 13th June at Dance House will conclude the season with an exciting display of dance artistry.
