Welsh Bowling Association seeking an Independent Chair
As sporting organisations across the UK seek to recover from the impact of COVID 19, many groups are looking to move forward, develop talent and attract new members, grow their online activities and reach out to new members. The bowling community is no different, with clubs across the UK launching new initiatives like Bowling Online and many clubs and organisations seeking to attract new members and often new board members.
Bowls Wales, the coordinating body for bowls in Wales, has announced that the group is care currently seeking expressions of interest to recruit an Independent Chair to lead the Performance Group
The group aims to promote the vision that bowls is a lifetime sport for all and, as a result, make it an inclusive sport that provides an opportunity for everyone to be involved, and the new Independent Chair role will help steer the groups’ future.
The group said in a statement:
“We are looking for a passionate individual to lead and support the groups activities in respect of performance pathways, preparation and talent development and to ensure that the Welsh teams and individuals are fully prepared for competition against the world’s best.
“The Performance Group meet online via zoom once every month at present. Some duties may be required outside of the meetings but are dependent on time and commitment.
“The new role will include working to key performance indicators as set by the Board of Directors to ensure clear pathways to success for the sport on the elite stage, and that we achieve required objectives as set out in the conditions of the Sport Wales funding. Experience of bowls is not necessary, but we are looking for individuals with experience, resilience and drive to support the group in delivering our ambitions.
“A keen eye for detail, the ability to influence and work with the National Governing bodies and associations and a passion to develop and embed a performance culture at the top level will be key.”
Candidates should be keen to drive forward the ambitions of the sport, have experience with leading on Performance Pathway and are able to volunteer your time to ensure bowls in Wales is performing to the highest standard, and should initially send an expression of interest, providing details of their experience and outlining what they would bring to the role. Candidates should contact Sophie.hancocks@bowlswales.com no later than Monday 11th October.
