Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves delivered a speech on economic growth today.

In the speech the Chancellor announced a series of new infrastructure projects in South East England.

Welsh Liberal Democrat Spokesperson David Chadwick MP has condemned the Government for sidelining Wales in its economic plans.

David Chadwick MP said:

“It was very clear from the Chancellor’s speech today that Wales is only an afterthought for this Labour Government.

“Not one of the major infrastructure projects that would boost growth in Wales were backed by the Chancellor today.

“Far from announcing the investment that areas like Wales need, the Government has chosen to focus almost entirely on already wealthy parts of the Southeast of England.

“The idea of levelling up and empowering local communities across the United Kingdom seems to have gone out of the window.

“The people of Wales deserve better than being treated as a footnote in the Government’s economic strategy. Real investment in infrastructure, connectivity, and local businesses is essential for ensuring that Wales can thrive as part of the UK economy. Instead, today’s announcements show that Labour, just like the Conservatives before them, are unwilling to prioritise Wales.”
