Rumours have been swirling for some time as to whether or not Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale will be retiring in the summer. Will we see him do so, or could we see him return from Spain for a career in the Premier League?
Plans for World Cup Qualification
At the moment, the focus of the Welsh captain is on ensuring that his national team qualifies for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. After a somewhat successful run in the 2020 Euros, Wales has every chance at managing to earn a qualification spot.
They have some incredibly impressive players on their side – and not just Bale. Are they going to win the World Cup? Probably not, but they have every chance at qualifying and managing to progress well in the competition. They made it to the round of 16 in the Euros, and they might perform exceptionally well if they can make it to the group stage of the World Cup. A chance to play at this level of professional football does not come around often, so it is little wonder that this is where Bale is choosing to focus his attention.
A Return to the Premier League
Should he not decide to retire, we could see a return to the Premier League on the cards for Bale. He has plenty of experience playing here. He played for Tottenham Hotspur prior to his transfer to Real Madrid, and then returned to the Spurs on loan. It might be a good idea for him to return there once his Real Madrid contract is up as he knows the team and is popular with the fans.
It is not unusual to see good players like Bale coming to and from teams like this. A Move to Coaching
The other option we might see is a move into coaching or a managerial position. As a captain, Bale has already picked up some experience that would allow him to step into this role exceptionally well.
There are many former players who have found their niche as managers, including those who are now considered to be some of the greatest football managers of them all. Bale has experience as a player at all levels of domestic and international leagues, and for this reason he is an ideal candidate for a managerial role. If he did decide to make this move, any number of clubs could take him on.
As the World Cup draws ever nearer, many eyes will no doubt be on Bale as he tries to help his team qualify. It would be great to see Wales make it to Qatar, and it will also no doubt result in some interesting doors opening for Bale in the future.
