Work is set to begin on the next phase of children’s play area refurbishments across Bridgend County Borough as part of a 500k investment, which will also see inclusive equipment installed.

The refurbishments are being undertaken in a series of contracts managed by the Green Spaces section and are set to be complete within the next four to six weeks.

The play areas which are being refurbished are:

  • Adare Street, Ogmore Vale
  • Heol y Goedwig, Porthcawl
  • New Street Play Area, Oak Street, Aberkenfig
  • Tondu Post Office Play Area, Maesteg Road, Tondu

The equipment has been planned to provide a combination of challenging and fun activities to suit different needs.

The design also takes into account that young children are both curious and adventurous and that they are learning all the time on a range of skills which include interacting with other children and motor skills.

Inclusive roundabouts are being installed at both the New Street and Tondu Post Office play areas, whilst an inclusive mountain multi-play unit will be fitted at Heol y Goedwig, Porthcawl. All these facilities will be suitable for wheelchair access.

It’s exciting to see so many playgrounds being refurbished across the county borough as it’s essential that local children have access to safe, well-maintained and fun play areas.

It’s also good to see that this investment is helping to make our playgrounds more inclusive and accessible for a wide range of abilities.
