Workplace recycling laws set to come into force next year
From 6 April 2024, it will become law for all businesses, charities, and public sector organisations to sort their waste for recycling.
Workplaces will need to separate the materials listed below for recycling:
- Paper and card
- Glass
- Plastic, cartons and metal and other similar packaging (for example, coffee cups)
- Food – only for premises that produce more than 5kg of food waste a week
- Unsold small waste electrical and electronic equipment (sWEEE)
- Unsold textiles
Each group of materials will need to be separated for recycling and workplaces will need to arrange for waste to be collected separately.
