Wynne Evans Launches New Radio Show – And Over 40,000 Listeners Tune In

After painfully parting ways with BBC Radio Wales this spring, Welsh opera star, broadcaster and beloved advertising icon Wynne Evans has launched his very own weekday morning internet radio show—The Wynne Evans Show. Airing live from 9 am to 12 pm, Monday to Friday, it broadcasts exclusively via his website, wynneevansshow.com
Listening in, it’s great to hear him back to his bubbly self after the painful past few months, and it’s great to hear. He’s clearly loving every minute and social media was awash with praise from the 40,000+ listeners who tuned in to the first episode yesterday.
Wynne said in his newsletter that the first show wasn’t all plain sailing, but you wouldn’t have noticed.
The debut show on Monday, 16 June attracted a staggering 40,065 listeners—a promising sign for his independent venture.
Evans cheekily quipped about his former BBC colleagues:
“Must be lovely and peaceful over there now. Plenty of time to finally finish that game of Solitaire.”
He also joked that the torrent of listener WhatsApp messages briefly crashed his system… great engagement and the show’s upbeat mood felt like sign of great things to come.
Challenges & Highlights
The show wasn’t without a few early technical glitches—buzzing audio, Wi‑Fi dropouts, and an overwhelmed WhatsApp—but listeners praised the warmth and emotion, particularly during heartfelt listener moments. His response to on-air sentiment underlined a connection to listeners that feels real, vulnerable, and refreshing – and he was clearly enjoying every moment, not least with the ability to completely choose his own playlist.
Listeners – “we loved it!”
Listener and fellow Welsh entertainer Alex John spoke for many when he said:
“The BBC made a massive mistake and I think they will start to realise it. We had laughs and tears this morning and it was an incredible show. Can’t wait to tune in again tomorrow!
“Wynne’s more himself, the music has massively improved and its more of a laugh than ever.”
