Staying in the UK: Family staycation ideas
Whilst staying on home ground might not guarantee you the sunny climate of the Mediterranean, there are ways of making the most of what’s on our doorstep. Especially with the kids in tow.
As four out of five of us opt for a UK holiday this year, it’s important to think about how to ensure your staycation is as stress-free and fun as possible as well as where to go. Wales of course had plenty of stunning options, but for Welsh residents keen to cross the border, there are plenty of experiences to choose from.
Packing for a UK break doesn’t need to cause a headache either. Choose versatile clothing to suit all weathers and take you from day to night. Layers are a great option for those chilly days and packing light items such as cotton skirts and t-shirts will leave extra room. Just don’t forget the rain jacket!
Now the packing’s taken care of, here are some fun places to explore –
The Forbidden Corner, North Yorkshire
For a whimsical adventure in the Yorkshire Dales, look no further than this mystical attraction. Explore the tunnels and statues amongst the gardens and enjoy lunch at the café.
Suitable for all ages, this is a hidden gem worth visiting.
Legoland, Windsor
With plenty of rides and attractions for all ages and special events held throughout the year, the kids will not be bored!
Explore the 12 themed lands and check-out the world’s best landmarks in Lego form.
The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Cornwall
With 200 acres of lush gardens, plants and wildlife, it’s a picturesque day out for all the family. The gardens also house the UK’s only outdoor jungle.
Don’t forget to check out the many music and animal events held here throughout the summer.
Sea Life, Brighton
With seven themed zones and many sea inhabitants, the world’s oldest aquarium is a learning adventure for everyone. For an extra special day, add on an experience such as the glass bottom boat to view the sharks and turtles close up.
Woodlands Family Theme Park, Devon
This is the largest theme park in Devon. With water rides, a zoo farm and plenty of events during the year, there’s fun to be had for kids of all ages.
Enjoy the magical wood of Fantasi Forest Zone, let the kids go wild in the Action Zone adventure playground and meet the meerkats in the farm.
With so many adventures to be had right on our doorstep, the UK is the place to be for a fun-filled family holiday.
