Celebrating St David’s Festival in Carmarthenshire – Events Taking Place Across the County
As Wales gears up to celebrate St David’s Day on March 1, Carmarthenshire has a whole host of activities across the county to celebrate the day of our patron saint.

As daffodils are beginning to bloom, Carmarthenshire County Council is delighted to announce a programme of celebrations within our leisure facilities.
Shoppers and visitors to Carmarthen Market this week will be treated to a floral display of daffodils within the foyer of the market. Traders will also be ready to serve Cawl to hungry customers.
St David’s Celebration Concerts
Theatrau Sir Gâr is thrilled to be hosting a St David’s Celebration Concert in each of our three venues in 2024. These special events are presented in partnership with Loud Applause Productions and will feature a handpicked selection of talented Welsh performers.

The award-winning Côr Meibion Pontarddulais will perform along with international harpist Dylan Cernyw. The evening will be hosted by Garry Owen and will also feature performances from a local young choir.
The Ffwrnes St. David’s Celebration Concert

The concert will star popular Welsh tenor Trystan Llŷr Griffiths, Morriston Rugby Club Male Voice Choir and Côr Lleisiau’r Cwm. Also featuring the talented pupils of Hendy Primary School and hosted by Garry Owen.
St David’s Day Food & Drink Festival at Pembrey Country Park
On Saturday and Sunday, 2 & 3 March, Pembrey County Park invites you to a Food & Drink Festival where you will find a variety of fantastic independent traders promoting food from Wales. From artisan produce and street food stalls, to live cooking demonstrations and live music throughout the weekend – it promises to be a tasty celebration.
Carmarthenshire Museums
Parc Howard Museum in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire Museum in Abergwili, Dylan Thomas Boathouse in Laugharne and the Museum of Land Speed in Pendine will be hosting free drop-in family activities on Saturday 2 March 2024 to celebrate St David’s Day.

Within our three main Libraries – Ammanford, Llanelli and Carmarthen, the following activities will take place:

Thursday 29 February 3:30pm – 4:45pm – Welsh Dragon Chocolate moulds (age 9+) (Ammanford, Llanelli and Carmarthen).
Friday 1 March 3:30 – 4:45pm- 3D – Printed Personalised daffodil bookmarks/clothes pin (age 9+) (Ammanford, Llanelli and Carmarthen).
Saturday 2 March 10:30am – 2:00pm – St David’s Day Green Screen (age5+) (Llanelli Library only – drop in session)

A SONG FOR ST DAVID’S DAY – SING TOGETHER / PAWB I GANU’N UN
Primary school pupils from across Wales are joining forces in a harmonious celebration of our land, language, culture and people. Beca Morris the soloist from Llangunnor School and 350 pupils from Model, Nantgaredig, Llangunnor, Richmond Park and Ysgol Y Dderwen in Carmarthenshire make up the 1200 children involved.
Accompanied by the internationally renowned Welsh National Opera Orchestra the children have been recording the song at venues across Wales and is released, for download today Monday 26th February. Here is the video
This exciting initiative comes from ABC of Opera, which provides interactive and inclusive music workshops for schools. Its founder, Mark Llewelyn Evans, along with award winning composer Rhys Taylor, Lorraine King and Dr Gwyneth Lewis, composed the celebratory, bilingual song. Its words embrace the universal themes of hope, light and together a timely message for the world now.
Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism – Cllr Hazel Evans said: “Carmarthenshire is very much looking forward to celebrating our patron saint, Dewi Sant through a wide variety of activities over the coming week.
In keeping with Dewi’s famous saying, ‘Gwnewch y pethau bychain’ – ‘Do the small things’ I would encourage everyone to support the local celebrations within their community as its a wonderful occasion for people to get together.”

Gŵyl y Daffodil / Daffodil Festival in Carmarthen will see a range of cultural and community events in the town whilst the national flower is in bloom.
Two Saints Festival, Llandeilo – 27 February – 1 March
To include a quiz night, an annual lecture, fashion show and thanksgiving service.
Carmarthen schools celebration at St Catherine’s Walk – 1 March
Choirs, performers and musicians will gather in St Catherine’s Walk, Carmarthen for this cultural bonanza. Schools and entertainers will sing, dance and perform on the day between 10am and 1pm.
Eisteddfodau Llandeilo – 1 March
Come to learn about the history of the eisteddfod tradition in Llandeilo at Hengwrt, along with a tour of the building and free tea & coffee and Welsh snacks to celebrate St David’s Day.
Guinness World Records Attempt at Cefn Sidan Beach – 1 March
If you have every fancied yourself as a World Record holder, then this St David’s Day, 1 March 2024) might be your opportunity to hold this prestigious title. Come along to Cefn Sidan Beach, Pembrey Country Park where there will be a Guinness World Records Attempt for the longest distance game of tug of war. Those wanting to participate must be aged 18 and over and need to arrive by 1pm for registration and a mandatory health and safety briefing. The record attempt will then be filmed from 2pm on the beach.

Carmarthen welcomes everyone to this amazing day for the Dathliadau Gŵyl Dewi | St David’s Celebrations. The Parade leaves at 11:00 from St Peter’s Church, with lots of performances in Guildhall Square. Come and join the fun and entertainment!
