Plans for a new strategic employment site at Brocastle, Bridgend, have moved a step closer following the completion of major infrastructure works.

The 116-acre site which has outline planning consent for up to 770,000sq feet of floor space, has undergone a programme of works involving the construction of key roads and provision of utilities to serve nine plots, enabling the development of modern business spaces to aid economic growth and job creation.

The works, undertaken by a local civil engineering contractor, were funded by more than £10 million from the Welsh Government, including around £6.2 million awarded through the European Regional Development Fund.

As part of the plans, the Welsh Government will also be funding an Active Travel Route, with works scheduled to begin in the Spring.

Minister for Economy, Vaughan Gething, said: “I’m pleased the work to develop a new strategic employment site at Brocastle has now been completed. The Welsh Government has made a significant investment to develop the site, in order to offer investment ready opportunities to businesses – which is in line with our Property Delivery Plan.

“I am really encouraged by the level of interest shown so far. We hope this will lead to the creation of many new jobs.”

Enquiries have been received from a number of property developers and owner occupiers in a range of sectors.

Heather Lawrence, Industrial and Logistics Director from JLL, the appointed marketing agents for the site, said: “Brocastle offers an exciting opportunity for occupiers to develop facilities in a strategic location with access to a skilled workforce and great communication links.

“The work which the Welsh Government has completed on the site is significant and is the enabler to ensure that South Wales has a competitive offering for the market.”

The Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration, Cllr Charles Smith: “This site which has a range of plots available is an ideal location for businesses to set up a base, being close to the A48, the M4 and the A473 dual carriageway.

“Now that the main site infrastructure is completed, we’d encourage all those interested to get in touch with JLL as soon as possible to find out more.”
