Plans have been approved to offer 12.5 hours a week of funded Flying Start childcare to families in new areas of Denbighshire, with a particular emphasis on strengthening Welsh Medium provision.

The entitlement offer has been set up to roll out in 3 stages as below:

  1. Meliden and parts of East & South West Prestatyn, from April 2023.
  2. Parts of South & South East Rhyl, starting from December 2023.
  3. Parts of Dyserth, Rhuddlan and Central Denbigh from August 2024.

Children living in eligible Flying Start postcode areas can access this funded childcare provision from the beginning of the term following their second birthday, up to the end of the term in which they celebrate their third birthday.

Councillor Gill German, Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Education, Children and Families said:

“It is brilliant to have been given Welsh Government funding and approval for new areas to receive the Flying Start childcare offer. This means even more families in Denbighshire will be able to access the free childcare and early education offer available in Wales.

I would encourage families in these new areas to follow our online link to find out more about what is available”.

An online application form will be available from Wednesday 7th of June. For more information please go to: www.denbighshire.gov.uk/flying-start-childcare.
