Porthcawl & Pyle ABC success continues with another 3 Welsh Boxing Champions

Porthcawl & Pyle ABC have continued their successful season, seeing 3 more members crowned Welsh Champions for the season.  This follows the club’s earlier success in the junior championships, where 2 young boxers were also crowned.

4 boxers were entered into The Welsh Open Championship in search of winning the coveted red Welsh vest.

First up was Maddison Pang in the 38kg schoolgirl category, Maddie put a lot of work in in preparation for the championship but sadly nobody entered in her category and she was crowned Welsh champion 2019.

Second up was Cade Rees in the schoolboys A category.  Cade had come a long way in the past year after loosing a lot of weight and progressing as a boxer.  Cade’s first bout was in the semi-finals, which he won comfortably.  His opponent in the finals was last Year’s champion – equipped with a game plan, Cade went out and boxed perfectly – causing what looked to be the upset of the day by securing victory and to beat last years champion bringing the vest home to Porthcawl & Pyle ABC.

Third up was Tia Lynch in the 51kg schoolgirls B category, she was drawn to box last years champion in the final where she went out and gave it her all constantly pressing forward pushing the pace in what was a very entertaining bout! The verdict came through but unfortunately the judges sided with her opponent with Tia loosing via a very tight split 3:2 decision…..amazing effort after only 2 bouts!

Fourth up was Cole Rees at 54kg schoolboys B category,  Cole boxed a very tough opponent from Newport who came out from the start throwing big shots, Cole stayed composed and countered with clean sharp punches to win the round to become Welsh schoolboy champion 2019.

Following on from the Welsh Championship Maddison Pang was invited to the Welsh performances team assessment to trial for the upcoming GB 3 nation championship where she has been selected to box for Wales

Cole Rees has also been selected to box for Wales at the GB 3 nations championship, based on his performance during the championship.  Sadly, his brother Cade unfortunately missed out due to his age, being the younger champion in his weight class.

Cole & Cade are matching a familiar trend – following in the footsteps of the highly successful and respected Clatworthy brothers to become the first brothers to win ABA Titles in the same season.  The Clatworthy achieved the same thing 6 years ago.

Coaches Wayne Charles and Shane Lynch are very proud of the Club’s continued Championship success this season.  A spokesman for the club said:

“These results indicate all the effort that our boxers and the coaching team have put into training, strategy and preparation.  We are now incredibly excited to see our boxers progress and represent Wales at the GB 3 Nation tournament.  Hopefully they will bring back a few more medals for both Wales and Porthcawl & Pyle ABC this season – we’ll be watching with pride!”
